The Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Donation Fund Program is an opportunity for individuals, corporations, and charitable organizations to contribute directly to the growth and development of our sport in Alberta — while receiving an official Government of Alberta donation receipt for tax purposes.

About the SPAR DONATION FUND PROGRAM

Through the SPAR program, your donation supports initiatives that strengthen our sport, enhance athlete development, and expand access to speed skating programs across the province – in alignment with our Strategic Plan, which focuses on building sustainable performance pathways, fostering inclusive participation, investing in coaches and officials, and ensuring equitable access to quality facilities and programming for all Albertans.

Funds received through the SPAR Donation Fund Program are directed to the Program Type by the donor. 100% of donations are provided to the Program Type selected by the donor.

Eligible areas “Activity Type” identified by SPAR Donation Fund Program are:

  • Recreation Programming
  • Athlete Development
  • Coach Development
  • Officials Development
  • Leadership Development
  • Facility Development
  • Event Support – Delivering exceptional events that provide opportunities for performance, participation, and community engagement.
  • Physical Activity Programming
  • Recreation Programming

To qualify for an official donation receipt:

  • Donations may be made online or by cheque payable to the Government of Alberta.
  • Donations must be unconditional and cannot be directed to a specific individual or organization. For greater clarity, donors cannot contact Speed Skating Alberta to direct their donations.
  • Donors may suggest an “Activity Type” preferred program area from the SPAR Donation Fund Program list above. Donations will be directed in alignment with Speed Skating Alberta’s Strategic Plan 2025–2029 and applied to initiatives that match the identified “Activity Type” while also supporting Speed Skating Alberta’s operational priorities.
  • Donations from individuals or corporations must be made without any benefit to the donor, their relatives, shareholders, or directors.
  • Minimum donation amount: $50.
  • Donations may be made online or by cheque payable to the Government of Alberta.

Upon processing, you will receive an official donation receipt from the Government of Alberta for tax purposes.

  • All SPAR donations to Speed Skating Alberta are received by the Government of Alberta and then granted to Speed Skating Alberta to be used strictly within the approved program areas “Activity Type”.
  • Speed Skating Alberta will strictly adhere to all SPAR Donation Fund Program Guidelines to ensure continued eligibility and maintain our status to access this important funding program.
  • Speed Skating Alberta reports annually on the receipt and expenditure of SPAR donations.
